Job Description
This opportunity is for a Data Analyst who will work with complex criminal justice data to develop analyses, support data-informed products, and help teams understand the factors that influence incarceration outcomes. The role collaborates across internal teams and external partners to turn raw and processed data into clear insights, practical tools, and product-ready analysis.
What You’ll Do
Explore datasets to identify new insights about American criminal justice systems
Contextualize and communicate key findings to internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with State Engagement and Implementation Engineering teams to design and execute targeted roadmaps that support measurable impact
Partner with Product Management, Data Science, and Software Engineering teams to bring analyses and data modeling into production software
Analyze trends and changes related to existing work to understand how products function
Contribute to analytical tooling and processes that help the team deliver stronger outcomes more efficiently
Support product launches by ensuring each product has the analytical data needed to drive impact in each state
Prepare analyses that can be used across multiple applications, including internal decision-making, external communication, and product development
Qualifications
2+ years of full-time professional work experience
2+ years of practical experience exploring, analyzing, and processing complex datasets
Professional experience using SQL with large datasets, including efficient queries for complex data extraction and transformation
Strong familiarity with Python, especially Pandas, for statistical analysis and data visualization
Ability to inspect source data, reason about data models, examine results carefully, and prepare data and analysis for different applications
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to support a knowledgeable, data-oriented culture
Ability to work with internal and external partners from diverse backgrounds, including government staff, researchers, journalists, technical staff, and criminal justice practitioners
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a cross-functional organization that designs, builds, and launches products for users
Experience working with large public-sector datasets, especially related to criminal justice
Familiarity with tools such as Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Looker, Jupyter notebooks, and Python/Pandas
Travel
Travel is encouraged approximately once every six months to state partners within the continental United States and may occasionally be required. These trips may include visits to prisons and parole offices.
